Matt Altier to Leave Post as President and CEO of LSU Health Foundation New Orleans

The Louisiana State University Health Foundation New Orleans and CEO and President Matt Altier have announced that Altier will be leaving the position he has held with the organization since 2017.

“Serving the Foundation has been a true gift to my family and I, and an unbelievable opportunity to work with so many people singularly committed to improving health outcomes and serving the residents of southeast Louisiana,” said Altier.  He continued, “I am grateful to the Foundation board and to my staff colleagues for their support and engagement in promoting the Foundation’s work. However, as I discussed with the board over the past few months, due to personal health concerns and wanting to make some life changes, it is simply time to step back from this position and assist the Foundation in other ways as it seeks to take its next steps forward.”

According to LSU Health Foundation New Orleans Chair Dr. Warren Gottsegen, “Matt’s contributions to the Foundation, and more broadly to the regional healthcare community, are many and will serve our residents and healthcare providers well for years to come.  Particularly, the Board appreciates Matt’s ability to bring several important and complex legacy projects to fruition that will have a lasting and positive impact on the medical community and our state as a whole. We are exceedingly grateful for the energy, innovation and determination he brought to his work and encouraged in so many within the organization.”

Longtime Foundation board member Carroll Suggs echoed Gottsegen’s comments, saying “Matt’s vision and passion created a real spark in many of us and helped shape strategies that encouraged the board and staff to think and act boldly in ways that allow it to compete with much larger, better funded and better-known foundations. Matt is leaving our Foundation in a very sound and promising position for future growth and success.”

Looking ahead, the board will undertake a national search to identify suitable candidates for President and CEO.  No specific timeframe has been set to have a successor in place.  In the meantime, a management transition team is in place who will continue the work of the Foundation until a successor is named.
