The LSU Health New Orleans’ School of Medicine Parent’s Council strengthens LSU Health’s commitment to community outreach programs that diversify, provide, and enhance educational and service opportunities on campus as well as the quality of life for students. The council works closely with the LSU Health Foundation, New Orleans to raise critical funding in support of medical students. As part of its mission to provide a supportive environment for learners, the council also offers emergency funding for medical students, which is needed now more than ever. The School of Medicine Student Emergency Fund assists students with financial hardships associated with the coronavirus pandemic and other unforeseen circumstances.
With the severity of coronavirus at the forefront of healthcare and education, it is crucial to ensure the health and wellbeing of the LSU Health community, especially the students. These extraordinary times raise challenges for students who demonstrate financial need and other vulnerable groups of students on campus; so, it is imperative to provide a robust resource used to support students in times of crisis. This initiative responds directly to the needs of medical students, from access to educational resources to housing support.
