LSU Health New Orleans’ Porche Awarded Top Honor by National League for Nursing

The National League for Nursing (NLN) presented Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, ANEF, FACHE, FAANP, FAAN, Professor and Dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing, with its Mary Adelaide Nutting Award for Outstanding Teaching or Leadership in Nursing Education during the 2023 NLN Education Summit. The Annual NLN Awards recognize and honor individuals of stature and distinction for their outstanding contributions to nursing education and the broader space of health care.

The NLN Mary Adelaide Nutting Award for Outstanding Teaching or Leadership in Nursing Education recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding teaching, contributes as a leader in nursing education, encourages creative interactions with students from diverse backgrounds, mentors and serves as role model for junior faculty and publishes scholarly works that advance nursing education knowledge or provides support for educational levels where they are engaged.

Dedicated to excellence in nursing, the National League for Nursing as the nation’s first nursing association serves as the leading voice for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. The NLN offers professional development, networking opportunities, assessment services, nursing research grants, and public policy advocacy for nearly 45,000 individual and over 1,000 institutional members. NLN members represent nursing education programs across the spectrum of higher education, health care organizations, and agencies.

Dr. Porche also holds faculty appointments in LSU Health New Orleans’ Schools of Public Health and Graduate Studies. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Nicholls State University and his Master of Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Science degrees at LSU Health New Orleans. He completed Family Nurse Practitioner post-graduate coursework at Concordia University, Wisconsin. Dr. Porche also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Organization and Management with a specialization in Leadership at Capella University.

 

Dr. Porche is certified as a Clinical Specialist in Community Health Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner. He was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Nursing. He is currently the Chief Editor of the American Journal of Men’s Health. He chairs the Louisiana Health Works Commission and serves on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Board of Directors.
