Known as New Orleans Winged Angel of Mercy, Sister Stanislaus Malone was born in 1884, the daughter of Catholic Irish immigrants she never knew. Over the course of her 65 years at Charity Hospital, Sister Stanislaus displayed an equal passion and love for healing along with a steadfast determination to elevate the status of the nurse by establishing the first Charity Hospital School for Nurses. Her legendary leadership led her to successfully petition for a new Charity to be built in 1934 as she brought the hospital into the modern age. Her oft-repeated counsel: “Be good to our poor people.”
Members of this society are role models for their leadership and compassion, carrying Sister Stanislaus’ legacy forward.
