L’Hopital des Pauvres de la Charite’, or Charity Hospital, was founded in 1732 through the goodwill of a Frenchman as a hospital for the indigent people of New Orleans. In 1860, Charity was one of the largest hospitals in the world, with a reputation noted as such. “No question of race, nationality, religion, sex or character hinders a single applicant for repose and healing.” Charity was a renowned teaching hospital, attracting medical experts from all over the country.
Members of this society honor the legacy, mission and spirit of Charity through their extraordinary acts of giving, ensuring future generations of healthcare providers will carry on the tenets of Charity Hospital.
The following donors have been generous to LSU Health New Orleans for many years and we thank them here by acknowledging their cumulative gifts.
