Sandra C. Andrieu proudly joined the faculty of LSU Health – New Orleans (LSUHSC), School of Dentistry (LSUSD) in 1978. Effective January 2022, she serves as Interim Dean. Dr. Andrieu grew in position and rank during her tenure at LSUHSC. She held the roles of Coordinator of the Program in Dental Hygiene, Director of Advanced Education, and has served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs since 1994. Her scholarly accomplishments led to her earning the rank of Professor with tenure in 1993. As a member of the first graduating class, Dr. Andrieu earned her Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene, from LSU Medical Center. Her interest in higher education led to a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans, where she was recognized as Outstanding Graduate Student in Educational Administration.
Dr. Andrieu enjoys serving with faculty, staff, and students on numerous committees at the school of dentistry, and across the health sciences center. Her successes at LSUSD led to her selection as Alumna of the Year in 2010. She is an active member of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and was elected to serve as President of that association in 2010-2011. As President-Elect, Dr. Andrieu focused the association on Interprofessional Education and chose IPE as the theme for the ADEA Annual Session and Exposition, during her Presidency in 2011. Also that year, Dr. Andrieu was selected to serve on the AAMC-Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) expert panel that drafted the landmark document, Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Report, in 2011. In 2012, Dr. Andrieu was appointed Chair of the inaugural LSUHSC Interdisciplinary Education Committee, that led to an LSUHSC IPE elective course enrolling approximately 100 students each year from the LSUHSC Schools of Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and the Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA), College of Pharmacy, from 2012-2016. The outgrowth of that team effort is Team Up: Commit to Compassion, Communication, and Collaboration, introduced in 2017, a two-year longitudinal experience integrated within the curricula of all first and second-year students enrolled in all six LSU Health Schools
Dr. Andrieu has skillfully led LSUSD through multiple Commission on Dental Accreditation site visits and currently serves as the LSUHSC faculty liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She strongly supports collaboration to maintain excellence in education.
