About LSUHSC
The history of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans began with the opening of the Medical School in 1931. A unique component of the LSU System, it is Louisiana’s largest academic health sciences center. LSUHSC New Orleans educates the majority of the state’s health professionals and health professions faculty through its six schools: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Graduate Studies and Public Health. And the Center’s eleven Centers of Excellence enable basic researchers and clinical investigators to combine resources, creating an environment that has lead to increased research success.

6 Schools
One of the very first in the nation to incorporate patient simulation into their curriculum, and with more advances in the works, the schools of the Health Sciences Center have remained the vanguard, driving technology and innovation to unprecedented levels. Through these six schools, LSUHSC New Orleans continues to educate the majority of Louisiana’s health care professionals. Important work, indeed.

      8 Centers of Excellence
LSUHSC has pioneered the Centers of Excellence model in Louisiana – bringing together clinical and basic science researchers to share resources and spark innovation. Centers conduct research, education, and/or patient care. Functioning as interdisciplinary entities, each Center is headed by a Director, who reports to the relevant School Dean. Crossing traditional boundaries for schools, colleges, and departments, all of the 8 Centers contribute significantly to the continued growth in research productively at the Health Sciences Center. The results have truly been remarkable.
